The club for runners in Saratoga Springs, NY

2019 Saratoga Stryders Grand Prix Series

Welcome to the Saratoga Stryders Grand Prix series! This series encourages Saratoga Stryders members to engage in fun, friendly, and inclusive competition; become more involved in volunteer activities; and actively participate in enticing non-members to join the club. Oh, and you may also win some cool awards in the process!

If you have never competed in a race – or are new to running in general – the Stryders Grand Prix (GP) may be just the thing for you! Friendly competition is a great way to stay active and meet new people – and can be addicting! You might just find yourself joining the men’s or women’s Stryder racing teams…

Log your race times and volunteer points:

  • You now have four weeks to log your race results on our web site!
  • Participation in 6 races and 2 volunteer points (1 point per event) will get you a Stryders Grand Prix gender-specific shirt. It's also possible to earn a shirt by earning 10 or more volunteer points, even if you don't race. Volunteering is critical to the success of the club. Examples include leading the trail runs April-October or coaching the Wednesday workouts, in addition to volunteering at specific races. Races and volunteer points must be logged within the four-week time period to qualify. Go to Grand Prix Log under the Grand Prix tab, enter your email address, and respond to the questions (race time and/or volunteer).
  • New races added this year: Polar Cap and Helderberg to Hudson Half.

 Now for the not-so-fine-print:

RULES FOR PARTICIPATION

  • Participants must be current Stryders members at the time of the event
  • Participants walk/run/race at GP events to earn points
  • No additional fee is required to participate in the GP
  • To qualify, Stryder members must log their events on our web site. The term this web site uses is "register," but it's really just logging your time after the event during the four-week window.
  • Participants enter races by following the normal entry procedures (this includes paying the normal entry fee)
  • Participants will be responsible for submitting individual results. All results must be received within 4 weeks of the race date in order to receive points.
  • Competition takes place over a full calendar year (January – December)

EARNING POINTS

  • To be eligible for an award, including the 6-race participation shirt, you must earn at least 2 volunteer points (participants may earn volunteer points and competition points at the same event, where applicable)
  • Volunteer points are not added to the total points, but may be used as a tie breaker in case of a race point tie.
  • Points are awarded based on participant age as of the last day of the calendar year (December 31) not age on the day of the event
  • At each event, points will be awarded by order of finish within each division, in comparison with other participants from the GP event:
    • 1st place – 10 points
    • 2nd place – 8 points
    • 3rd place – 6 points
    • 4th place – 4 points
    • 5th place – 2 points
    • 6th place* – 1 point
  • 1 bonus point will be awarded for participation in ten (or more) GP events
  • A participant’s final score is the combination of his/her best 6 Grand Prix events (no minimum required for final score calculation)
  • Ties for awards will be broken based on the following criteria:
    • Head-to-head GP events
    • Number of volunteer points
    • Random draw

* ALL participants will receive points: (i.e. if you are the 6th or later finisher in your category, you still receive one point)
